About the event

This June, Caring Crew is returning to Guatemala to work with our newest partners, Mario's Project! Mario's Project was started in 2020 to help feed the families of Guatemala who were hit hard by the Pandemic. Each week, volunteers go into the poorest communities to deliver bags of food necessities such as pasta, tomato sauce, flour, and beans, with each bag feeding a family of four for four days. Our project will focus on buying supplies and preparing bags, then delivering them to 100 families.

This trip will be a bit different for volunteers who have worked Caring Crew events in the past, as there won't be hands-on activities with the children or any sort of "camp" experience. Volunteers will be chosen on a first-come, first-serve basis, with 5-8 volunteers needed in total. We will be walking throughout different communities, many of which are hilly, carrying these large bags to homes.

We will be staying in Janet Bausch's home in Antigua, hence the limited availability. As the founder of Mario's Project, Janet has graciously hosted Caring Crew this past February and has opened her home again for this opportunity! The house is in a double-gated community with three bedrooms: two have a single bed, one with a King-sized bed, one has two single beds, and a pull-out couch that can sleep two. If you prefer, you can book your own accomodations.

Information:

Dates: June 28-30, 2021

Limited availability: 5-8 volunteers needed on a first-come, first-serve basis

The cost of the trip includes a $130 nonrefundable deposit and any miscellaneous costs for meals. The deposit covers all transportation (with the exception of flights), three days' lodging and breakfast, and a Caring Crew tee shirt.

*****Please note that volunteers who are fully vaccinated do not need a COVID test to enter Guatemala, but a test is still required to return to the United States. We recommend getting tested before you leave Atlanta, as the test is good for three days, the length of the trip. However, there is testing available in the Guatemala airport for a charge. *****

We will be leaving Atlanta on June 28, 2021 on the 10:05AM flight to Guatemala City, and will return to Atlanta on June 30, 2021 on the 1:00PM flight.
